The Silver Jubilee festival of the Germania Broadcast of Chicago, one of the city's oldest foreign language programs, will be held in Orchestra Hall Friday. The program is heard on WGES at 8:30pm weekdays and at 10:30am Sundays.
The Germania broadcast, which for six years has presented the concert hour over WIBO at 1 o’clock Sundays, has engaged Siegfried Vollstedt as its new music maestro. Mr. Vollstedt, a newcomer to Chicago, is the son of the late Hamburg composer Robert Vollstedt, whose waltz, “The Jolly Fellow” was chosen by John Philip Sousa to pen the Chicago World’s Fair in 1893. Mr. Vollstedt conducted the Hamburg opera for many years.
